About Parks

A park is a protected area that is set aside for human recreation, or the protection of wildlife and/or natural habitats. Parks can typically contain rocks, soil, water, flora, fauna and grass areas.

Wilderness parks are intact and undeveloped areas are used mainly by wild species. Many parks are legally protected by law. Protected wilderness zones are required for some wild species to survive.

National parks are reserves of land declared and owned by a national government, and they are protected from most human development and pollution. The largest national park in the world is the Northeast Greenland National Park, established in 1974.

Sub-national parks are usually managed by the local levels of government.

Urban parks are intended for recreational use and usually maintained by the local government. They commonly resemble savannas or open woodlands. Because of this, human beings find them very relaxing.
